Band
About Our Band Program
The high school's award-winning band program offers students a wide range of opportunities to develop their musical talents and participate in extracurricular activities. The Symphonic Band, open to all students in grades 9-12 without prerequisites, focuses on fundamental instrumental skills, including rhythm-reading, tone production, and articulation, while encouraging students to explore the emotional aspects of music and critique performances. The Wind Ensemble, an audition-based group, performs high-quality wind band repertoire at festivals and contests, fostering professional-level musicianship and in-depth musical discussions. The Percussion Ensemble welcomes all percussionists and other musically inclined students, providing instruction on various percussion instruments and opportunities to perform at concerts and sporting events. The Jazz Band, also audition-based, develops students' skills in improvisation and various jazz styles, with wind players typically also enrolled in Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble. Finally, the Jazz Lab serves as a preparatory group for the competitive Jazz Band, teaching students swing style and improvisation and allowing them to travel and compete. Additionally, the Pep Band, comprising all members of the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, performs at home football games, pep assemblies, and the Homecoming Parade in the Fall and at select basketball games and assemblies in the Winter. The Pep Band marches in the Starlight Parade every other year in the Spring. Each course is yearlong, offers one credit, and can be repeated for credit, ensuring students have ample opportunities to grow and excel in their musical pursuits.
Please see the Curriculum Guide for more information about courses and the school calendar for performances.
